Although this figure is not inconsiderable, when aligned with the devastation caused to many families, it is a very small compensation figure. Plus, when you consider that it is now very common for asbestosis / mesothelioma class action cases to be conducted on a 'no win, no fee' arrangement, where the victim or their families need to pay 20 - 50% of their compensation in legal fees, this figure is pretty much insulting. Many qualifed attorneys now insist that it's better to represent your case on your own, though understandably they do have a bias in saying this. Some say that individual mesothelioma claims statistically result in higher compensation figures than other asbestosis related diseases, though we are yet to see any data to substantiate this.
